Each of us is born under a different sign: Rat, Ox, Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon, Snake, Horse, Goat, Monkey, Rooster, Dog, and Pig. And each of these animals is ruled by one of the five elements: Metal, Water, Wood, Fire and Earth. The combination of these two influences our lives, shaping our character and the decisions we make. Legend has it that Buddha summoned all the animals on earth and only 12 species appeared. The rat was the first to arrive. It is said that to reward them, they turned them into the twelve signs of the Chinese zodiac. The other version originates from the Jade Emperor who summoned the animals to a race and in this story the rat won again.
